Ace Journey is a Texan that calls himself a confirmed bachelor. He’s at a function when he sees Gabriella Appleby. They had an altercation prior to this function. Gabby is a plus-size model from New Jersey who has a mother that she takes care of. I can identify with Gabby in that I’m not model thin and I’ve always taken care of my parents. And I can almost understand her attitude problem.

Ace has come to New Jersey on business and Gabby has agreed to meet him at a Jewish Deli. I love the name Patricia gave the deli – Rumpernooks. I would love to know the type of research Patricia may have done for this scene. Gabby is showing Ace the difference between bagels from Texas and a true Jewish bagel.

Patricia makes Gabby’s mother something of a clinging vine. You have to feel sorry for Gabby. My own mother was different from Gabby’s. My mother had a severe stroke and it was a lot of time and energy to work a full time job and then to be her caregiver. I had a good support system at my job. I was able to take the time needed to see to her care. But reading Patricia’s story, Gabby doesn’t have that support. Plus I get the impression that the mother likes being the center of attention.

Patricia has made a teaser of a book trailer on YouTube, http://youtube/UH7Hkl9a5cg. Now this book does cover spanking and there is a quick scene in the trailer. There are explicit scenes but they are done tastefully. I also love that each book is a stand-alone since I haven’t read the first book yet. If you haven’t read any of this series yet, you can stop by Patricia’s web site, http://patriciagreenbooks.com/journey-family-series/, to check out what books are out now and which book is coming out this Fall. I hope you will give this series a try. I’m looking forward to reading the others.

The Summoner by Alisha Steele

Rating: 4 ½ stars

Alexandra, “Alex”, Brannigan is twenty seven and already worried about wrinkles. As she’s examining her almost wrinkles, the power goes out and someone calls to her. The scene then jumps into her “nightmare”. It’s one that she’s had in the past.

Alex’s job is running a place called Dovescot which is a refuge for battered women. She’s only 5’ 2” and weighs 100 pounds. She may be petite but in a fight, you would want her on your side. She certainly knows how to take care of herself.

Her tormentor has black wings and alabaster white skin. Alisha paints a very sexy picture – be still my heart. His name is Kasdeya and what makes him different from Alex is that he’s not human. There is also another character that she will eventually meet and his name is Shaitan.

Kasdeya doesn’t waste any time showing Alex who’s in charge. But then she takes him by surprise. They also have an interesting connection. They are the perfect match – he being the typical bad boy and her the typical good girl.

Alisha’s scenes are so descriptive that you almost feel that you’re a voyeur. But I don’t think either of them would mind being on display. They seem to be playing a game of cat and mouse. It leaves me wondering who’s going to win.

Just like great sex, Alisha doesn’t rush her scenes between Kasdeya and Alex. Alisha also does role reversals with her characters. This book would put any adult movie to shame. In the description it states that it has explicit language but I found it not to be as explicit as some.

Alex gets very creative in a spanking scene with Kasdeya. They act more like a normal couple instead of a demon and a human summoner. They are very physical lovers. Alisha gives her fallen angel feelings which you wouldn’t think was possible – especially without some fallout from above.

This story also makes you question as to what lengths you would go to for the one you love above all else. Alisha also has you jealous of how her lovebirds are together. We also get to know some of the lesser characters. There is Alex’s co-worker Ruth, Kasdeya’s ex-friend Uriel, and Shaitan’s concubine Shi-Liu.

Toward the end of the story, Alisha has a scene that we see twice. Once is through Alex’s eyes and the other is through Kasdeya’s eyes. This makes the scene interesting. At the very end of the book, she’ll have you laughing. And once you get there you’ll see what I mean. Please make sure that you don’t miss the “About Alisha Steele” found at the end of the story. You will find out that Alisha explains a little bit about the writing of this story. “The Summoner” is a must read.

Master’s Hunt by Verity Ant

No Boundaries Press
205KB; 120 pages
Rating: 4 ½ stars

Renee and Kevin are seen in a pool having a good time. Amiko is also with them. I give her kudos for wearing nipple clamps. Kevin is a very lucky man. He’s got not one but two women to love. And then the phone rings and interrupts everything. Kevin is their Master.

You get to see why Kevin’s a Master when you see him dealing with his sister’s doctor. His sister Lori is very sick and we see to what lengths Kevin will go to in order to take care of her. He may live a certain lifestyle but that doesn’t stop him from caring about the women in his life.

Verity gives us glimpses of their lives outside their little circle. Some stories like this get lost in the sex and Verity shows us that her characters actually do something outside of the bedroom. We also see what Kevin’s sexual preference is.

Renee and Amiko love how Kevin treats them and how they all love each other. They are true submissives. Do you and your partner use sexual punishments? Do you think you would enjoy something like that? Are you curious about the BDSM lifestyle?

This is a very explicit and sexually charged story. It is not for the “faint of heart”. Some of what they do may put you off but remember that’s the way they choose to live. I hope you will give this story a chance. If you like to watch porn, this is a couple of steps above that. This has a better story line than those movies you may see “on demand”.

Verity has also included some mystery and intrigue in the story when Amiko seems to have disappeared. Again, we see that even though Kevin is the Master he has deep feelings for Amiko. But he doesn’t let Renee feel left out. They are a family.

This is also a story about obsession and what lengths some people will go to in order to get what they want. When reading this story, you must let all your inhibitions go. Sexual toys are used and there is some pain involved. But pain can also bring pleasure if done correctly. Has any of that ever sexually aroused you? Maybe this story has made you curious. Has Verity made you a fan? I am. If you still need something to help you decide, please watch this YouTube trailer.

Wicked Weekend by Gillian Archer

Release Date: March 12, 2012
Publisher: Carina Press

Lauren Vaughn is at a ski lodge not too far from ski resort not too far from Vegas with her sister, Crystal, and her sister’s fiancé, Pierce. She goes up to the bar to get some drinks and meets Jamie Forman.

We catch her drooling over him and then she meets his eyes. They then get into a discussion about BDSM. They want to get to know each other better and Lauren lets him in on a secret – she listens to a podcast about that lifestyle. Do you?

We see that Lauren has body issues. She feels that she’s a little on the plump side. Jay is her perfect match. He is the Dom to her Sub – and she loves it. Gillian is great about showing us everything that Lauren is feeling but we really don’t see much about what Jamie is feeling. Then as he get emotionally closer to Lauren that is when you finally see what he’s feeling and how his past has an effect on him now.

Has Jamie changed Lauren’s life? Will she continue the lifestyle when she goes back to her “normal” life? If you want these two questions answered you have to continue reading. What’s nice about this book is that you can finish the story in one day. The bad thing is, you want to know more about their life together.

If the BDSM lifestyle is not your scene, you may want to give this one a try. It’s not in your face. The spanking, role playing, and general BDSM is well written and not written to make the reader uncomfortable. It may also give you a new author to start reading.

I give “Wicked Weekend 4 1/2 stars.
